The prevailing trends of the global digital revolution and technological competition, combined with the shift of intellectual property (IP) activities towards Asia and the support outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan, present Hong Kong with a unique opportunity to develop into a regional hub for IP trading.

On July 4, 2023, the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council (HKYIC) organized a dissertation seminar titled “IP Commercialization – A Boost for Hong Kong Re-Industrialization”. At the event, Professor Heiwai Tang—Associate Dean of the HKU Business School, Associate Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy (HIEBS), and Director of the Asia Global Institute (AGI)—published a research report in collaboration with HKYIC.

Drawing upon experiences from the United States, Mainland China, and Singapore, the report analyzes the trading and financing aspects of intellectual property. It highlights that IP commercialization can promote economic development and generate high-quality employment opportunities. To advance IP commercialization in Hong Kong, the report proposes eight targeted recommendations.
